Plan a complete Scrap Mechanic build without double-counting

The crafting planner converts finished-item goals into whole production batches and a consolidated material list. Its main advantage over a hand calculation is that it keeps route choices, shared ingredients, surplus output, and owned inventory in the same model.

Start with finished goals, then inspect the selected routes

Add the items and quantities you want to finish rather than entering every intermediate component. The planner recursively expands craftable ingredients until it reaches a base material or a method you have chosen not to expand.

If an output has more than one current method, review the selected route before trusting the total. A cheaper-looking path may require a station, trade currency, or schematic that your save has not unlocked.

Surplus and shared ingredients are calculated together

Every production step rounds up to a complete batch. Output beyond the immediate requirement enters the plan’s surplus and can satisfy another dependency instead of being crafted twice. Goals are therefore best planned together when they share components.

Owned quantities are subtracted from the consolidated requirement. Enter what is actually available for this project—not the theoretical size of every chest—so the “still needed” column remains a usable collection checklist.

How the time estimate should be interpreted

The plan uses current recipe time and the chosen crafter profile. Released crafter code applies station speed and published process-slot rules; parallel-capable Craftbot and Sawtable profiles can distribute work across their available slots.

Sequential plan time is a reproducible processing estimate, not a completion forecast for a live base. It excludes walking, transferring stacks, waiting for power or fuel, emptying outputs, and running different independent stations at the same time.

A reliable pre-build checklist

Review goals and quantities, confirm every route, enter owned base materials, then scan the crafting steps from the deepest intermediate to the final output. Copy the plan only after schematic and station warnings match the progression state of the save.

Recalculate when you change a route or add a goal. A single alternative method can alter multiple upstream totals, and a newly shared ingredient may make previously generated surplus useful elsewhere.

  • Plan related goals together to share intermediate surplus.
  • Treat trade and schematic routes as progression choices, not free substitutions.
  • Keep the copied material list tied to the route shown in the same plan.

Check the assumptions behind the total

The planner expands the same 736 validated methods shown by the recipe browser and uses 16 released crafter profiles.
