Scrap Mechanic Survival Map Guide: Locations & Save Maps

Learn which parts of a Scrap Mechanic Survival map depend on the seed, how to read exact and area markers, how to render a local 1.0 save, and how to plan routes without mistaking a reference world for your own.

Is every Survival map the same?

01

No single screenshot is a universal map of every Survival world. The world is generated from a save seed, so roads, biomes, coastlines, elevation, and many ordinary points of interest can differ. Version 1.0 also reworked terrain generation and added new locations, which makes pre-release map images especially unsafe as exact route plans.

Some major destinations still have accepted coordinates or stable area centers in the current world layout. That is why a useful map can guide you toward the Mechanic Station or a Growlab while still warning that the final road, slope, entrance, or nearby terrain may look different in your save.

Reference terrain and your save answer different questions

02

The default terrain is an exact render of one accepted reference save. It is useful for learning the scale of the world, the relative direction of major destinations, and how the location controls work. It does not prove that your roads, lakes, warehouses, or local terrain use the same arrangement.

Selecting your own Survival .db file replaces the terrain layer with a render made from that save. The browser reads and renders the file locally; the selected save and generated image are not uploaded or persisted by the map tool. This gives you seed-specific terrain without changing the save.

What the 14 location cards actually tell you

03

The current atlas covers the Crashed Ship, the Gyro-Core story destination, the Mechanic Station, the Hideout, vegetable and fruit Packing Stations, the Scrap Garage, and Growlabs 1–7. Their names and descriptions use the active game locale, so the card can be matched to the wording shown by the current game.

An exact marker is a coordinate that can be followed directly. An area-center marker identifies the accepted center of a destination area, not a promise that the doorway, road approach, vertical level, or quest interaction sits on that pixel. Select a card to center and zoom the map, then use the surrounding terrain as the final approach clue.

  • Use the Crashed Ship and Gyro-Core exact markers as direct coordinate references.
  • Treat service, trade, Scrap Garage, and Growlab pins as area guidance.
  • Do not infer unlisted warehouses, resources, small ruins, or random encounters from the reference terrain.

Plan a route without turning the atlas into false GPS

04

Start with the decision that blocks progress: returning to the ship, reaching building services, delivering produce, following a quest, or preparing for a hostile Growlab. Compare the relevant cards, pick visible terrain or roads as intermediate landmarks, and leave enough fuel, food, and recovery margin for a different local approach.

The atlas does not track the live player, write waypoints into the game, calculate a safe path, reveal interior floors, or guarantee enemy and resource placement. It is strongest as a route-planning reference paired with the current quest state and what you can see in your own world.

How to open your local Survival map safely

05

On Windows, open the file chooser and paste `%AppData%\Axolot Games\Scrap Mechanic\User` into its address bar. Enter the folder named for your Steam user, then `Save\Survival`, and choose the world’s `.db` file. You can also drag that file from File Explorer onto the upload panel.

The map validates the file, reads the world seed and terrain records, composes a browser image, and switches the terrain layer to a local Blob. It does not save over the database. Keep normal backups anyway: the map is read-only, but a Survival world is still valuable and may be opened by other tools or game versions later.

If the page rejects a file, first confirm that it is a non-empty Survival `.db` from the supported 1.0 world format. A Creative save, unrelated SQLite database, older terrain format, or file above the browser processing limit will not produce a supported map.

Privacy boundary

The save parser and terrain composer load only after you select a file and run inside the current browser session. The save is not sent to a ScrapMech Wiki upload endpoint, and restoring the reference map revokes the generated local image URL.

Common Scrap Mechanic map questions

06

These answers separate what the current atlas can establish from what must still be checked in the active world.

Why does my world not match a map from a guide or video?

The source may use another seed or an older game version. Compare the major destination first, then expect roads, terrain, coastlines, and ordinary points of interest to differ. A pre-1.0 map is not exact evidence for the reworked 1.0 world.

Does a location marker show the exact entrance?

Only markers labeled exact should be treated as direct coordinates. An area-center marker points to the accepted destination area; use the rendered terrain and in-game landmarks to find the final entrance or interaction.

Can the map show my live position or create an in-game waypoint?

No. The page renders saved terrain and provides reference markers. It does not connect to the running game, read a live player position, or write a waypoint back into the save.

Will selecting a save upload or modify it?

No. The file is read and rendered locally in the browser. The tool does not upload the database or write changes to it.
