Incandescência em Scrap Mechanic: criar Glowbs para produzir

Os Glowbs soltam incandescência, e alimentá-los com papelão vira uma fazenda. É daí que saem baterias e fertilizante.

Glowbugs are the answer, and they are farmable

Glow comes off Glowbugs. Kill one and it drops a Glow, guaranteed. That is the fast answer, and it ends your supply.

The better answer is that you do not have to kill them. A Glowbug that eats enough Cardboard Blocks leaves droppings behind, and the droppings are Glow. The published feeding figures are five items per product, a search radius of five metres and a reach of one metre, so a Glowbug will walk to cardboard that is within five metres of it and eat from about a metre away. Drop cardboard near a Glowbug and it keeps producing without ever being harmed.

Two more sources exist if you happen to be passing:

  • Large mixed deposit: one roll at 9.1% for 1 Glow.
  • Small mixed deposit: one roll at 9.1% for 1 Glow.
  • Ruin chest and restocking ruin chest: one roll each at 3.9%, for 1 to 4 Glow.

Nothing crafts Glow and no trader sells it, so the bug is the supply.

Building the farm

The loop is short and every step is a recipe you already have:

  1. Break trees for logs and refine them into Scrap Wood Blocks.
  2. Craft Cardboard Blocks: 5 Scrap Wood Blocks make 20 Cardboard Blocks in 5 seconds at the Craftbot.
  3. Drop the cardboard next to Glowbugs and collect the droppings.

Five Scrap Wood Blocks turning into twenty Cardboard Blocks is the part that makes this work. With five cardboard eaten per Glow, one batch of that recipe is four Glow’s worth of feed, from five blocks of wood you got for free.

Keeping the bugs where you want them

Glowbugs move slowly. Their published walk speed is 0.2 against a sprint speed of 1.8, so a calm bug barely moves while a startled one covers ground nine times faster. Feed them, do not shoot them, and a small penned area near your base stays productive.

They have 100 health and no attacks at all, so they are not a threat and not a fight. If you do want the drop right now, one is easy to kill. It just ends the supply.

What Glow is for

Six recipes use it:

  • Fertilizer: 10 Glow and 5 Water make 5 Fertilizer, in 10 seconds.
  • Battery: 5 Metal Block Level 1, 1 Glow and 5 Chemicals make 10 Batteries, in 5 seconds.
  • Glowstick: 4 Chemicals and 4 Glow make 4 Glowsticks, in 5 seconds.
  • Refined Nimbolium: 10 Nimbolium and 5 Glow, in 10 seconds.
  • Small Explosive Canister: 5 Metal Block Level 1, 2 Glow and 2 Chili.
  • Large Explosive Canister: 10 Metal Block Level 1, 4 Glow and 3 Chili.

Batteries are the cheap one. A single Glow turns into ten Batteries, so electric builds rarely run short. Fertilizer is the expensive one at 10 Glow for 5 Fertilizer, and it is also the one a farm eats continuously, so a Glowbug pen tends to pay for itself through the fertilizer line alone.

If you only need one Glowstick

There is a shortcut worth knowing. The Hideout trades 20 Glowsticks for a single Redbeet Crate, and the Mining Hub trader sells one for 10,000 Wonk Stack. If light is all you wanted, the Hideout trade is far cheaper than raising Glow and Chemicals to make your own.

Where the bugs live

Glowbugs are found rather than spawned on demand, which is why “where do I find glowbugs” is really the same question as “where do I find Glow”. Note the spots you pass on the interactive map, and check the rates on any source in the item database before you plan a route around it. A known pen location is worth more than a lucky encounter.

Mixed deposits are the other landmark to remember. They award Metal Block Level 1 and Glow off the same node, both at 9.1% per roll, so break one whenever you pass it even if Glow was not what you came for.
