How to Get Component Kits Fast in Scrap Mechanic
Farmbots hand over three Component Kits every time, warehouse reward chests give ten at once, and one crop crate buys twenty. The fastest run for each stage.
Kill Farmbots, break warehouse chests, sell pineapples
Component Kits are used to upgrade interactive parts and unlock bots at the Mechanic Station, which is the game’s own description of them and the reason you never have enough.
Three routes beat everything else, and which one is fastest depends on where you are in the run:
- A Farmbot pays out three guaranteed Component Kits plus two more rolls at 50% each. Farmbots found in Grow Labs, underground and in warehouses all use the same table. The one caught in a farm raid pays less: one guaranteed kit plus a single 50% roll.
- A warehouse reward chest gives 10 Component Kits in one guaranteed roll.
- The Trader Hideout swaps 1 Pineapple Crate for 20 Component Kits.
Anything else is a slower version of these three.
Bot drops, ranked
If you are killing things anyway, this is the order worth knowing:
- Farmbot: 3 guaranteed, plus 2 rolls at 50%.
- Minerbot: 1 guaranteed kit on every variant, whether it is carrying Goopite, Aurumite, Crimsonite, Thornite, Disconite, a common ore mix or a rare ore mix.
- Haybot: one roll at 65%. Underground and warehouse Haybots keep the 65%, Grow Lab ones drop to 35%, and farm raid ones to 20%.
- Tapebot carrying a schematic: one roll at 50%.
- Yellow Tapebot: one roll at 50%, dropping to 33.3% during a farm raid.
- Tapebot: one roll at 25%, or 40% underground.
- Lootbot while being hit: one roll at 8.5%.
Farmbots are the outlier by a wide margin. Four kits on an average kill, five when both coin flips land, is more than a legendary crate is likely to give you. A Grow Lab full of them is the densest source in the game. Every rate above is on the Component Kit page in the item database alongside the rest of its drop table.
Farm raids pay worse, not better
Notice the pattern in those numbers. Nearly every bot drops fewer kits during a farm raid than the same bot does out in the world. Defending a raid is not a farming strategy for Component Kits. It is a way to keep your crops, and the salvage is a consolation prize.
Containers worth opening
Crates are worse than bots but they stack up while you are exploring:
- Warehouse reward chest: 10 kits, guaranteed.
- Common loot crate in the starting area: one roll at 20%.
- Common loot crate: one roll at 13.3%, or 16.7% in a warehouse, for 1 to 3 kits.
- Epic loot crate: five rolls between 2% and 16.7%, for 1 to 3 kits.
- Legendary loot crate: six rolls between 2.3% and 16.7%, for 2 to 3 kits.
- Ruin chest and restocking ruin chest: one roll each at 3.9%, for a single kit.
- Warehouse file cabinets and lockers: 1.3% per roll, two rolls in a cabinet and four in a locker.
The reward chest is the only container that is reliably worth a detour. The rest are things you open on the way past.
Buying them with crops
The Trader Hideout trade is 1 Pineapple Crate for 20 Component Kits, and it is the best deal in the game once your farm can produce pineapples. It is also the reason a pineapple field is worth the raid pressure it brings: Pineapple is worth 1,000 raid points each, so a field big enough to fill crates will sit deep into the raid table. Check what you are signing up for with the raid calculator before you plant it.
The Mining Hub trader sells the bigger version instead. A Multi Component Kit costs 1,000 Wonk Stack, and that is the part the Mining Hub machines want: 1 for an Ore Collector, 1 for a Prospectorbot and 5 for a Sawbot. Ordinary Component Kits are not on the Wonk Stack list at all, so the Pineapple Crate trade is the only way to buy them.
What they get spent on
The Craftbot ladder is the first big bill. Upgrading from level 1 to level 5 costs 5, 5, 5 and 20 Component Kits, so 35 in total, and it takes you from 2 crafting slots to 8 slots at double speed.
The other stations cost kits too. A Craftbot dispenses for 80 Scrap Metal Blocks, 10 Component Kits and 5 Circuit Boards. A Cookbot is 40 Metal Block Level 2, 10 kits and 10 boards. A Dressbot and a Refinebot are 5 kits each.
Parts that eat them quietly
After the stations, kits go into tools and interactive parts a few at a time:
- Spud Gun: 50 Metal Block Level 1 and 5 Component Kits.
- Spud Shotgun: 50 Metal Block Level 2 and 10 kits.
- Gas Engine Level 1: 20 Metal Block Level 1, 5 kits, 1 Circuit Board, 5 Crude Oil.
- Electric Engine Level 1: 20 Metal Block Level 2, 5 kits, 10 Circuit Boards, 5 Batteries.
- Growbed: 2 kits, 2 Cable Rolls, 1 Soil Bag.
- Piston Level 1, Sensor Level 1 and Controller Level 1: 1 kit each.
Thirty-five kits for the Craftbot plus a weapon and an engine is close to fifty before you have built a vehicle. Two reward chests, or a Grow Lab’s worth of Farmbots, covers the whole bill in one trip.
